How Many Units Do I Need To Graduate College?
The University of Louisiana at Monroe, an institution of higher education, maintains compliance with the requirements and regulations established by the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act, as amended on June 17, 1976. The Privacy and Family Act compliance guidelines -Educational Rights are available. to parents and students from the Office of Student Affairs, Dean of Students, Registrar and Student Government Association. The curriculum is designed to develop fundamental knowledge in the core areas of chemical engineering (thermodynamics, transport and kinetics), while research opportunities are available in advanced. materials, catalysis and electrocatalysis, batteries, biological and medical systems, computational fluid dynamics, functional interfaces, optical materials and theory, simulations and artificial intelligence through faculty-led research groups.
Successful completion of a master’s degree in chemical engineering typically leads to advanced professional positions or continuation to a Ph.D. Recent graduates of the master’s program currently hold positions such as Northrop Grumman, St. Gobain, IBM, ExxonMobil, 3M and Stanford University.
Students pursuing the thesis-based master’s degree must earn 30 credit hours, with at least 18 credit hours of undergraduate coursework and 6 to 12 credit hours of research. Students who choose this option must also satisfactorily complete the master’s thesis and pass an oral defense. Most students complete the Plan A program in two years.
At least 18 credits must be courses related to the chemical engineering department, and up to 6 credit hours may be research (optional). Students who choose this option must pass an oral exit exam. Most students complete the Plan B program within a year and a half.

All students in the MS program, regardless of the source of their financial support, must help teach a chemical engineering course. Teaching experience is considered an integral component of postgraduate training.

After completing a cluster, the School of Engineering and Applied Sciences will issue students with a certificate of completion.
Master Of Business Administration (mba)
For first-year MS students, academic advisors are assigned by the Graduate Student Committee. If a student chooses to choose the research-based Plan A program, the designated research advisor becomes the academic advisor. Students in the Plan A program should select a research advisor by the end of the first fall semester.
