The University of Wisconsin-Madison School of Nursing also ranks high on our list of the 30 Best Nursing Programs. The school was founded in 1924 as the first collegiate nursing program in Wisconsin and grew to become one of the best schools in the nation. The University of Washington School of Nursing was named one of the Top 25 Best Nursing Schools in 2015 by U.S. News & World Report and, like a handful of programs on our list, was named to the Center for Nursing Schools’ Top 25 Cutting-Edge Nursing Schools list. Additionally, the school is one of the highest funded schools by the National Institutes of Health (NIH), receiving more than $280 million in fiscal year 2016.

Next on our list of the 30 best nursing programs in the country is the University of Cincinnati College of Nursing. Founded in 1889 as the Cincinnati Nurses Training School, the college was named one of the Top 25 Nursing Schools in 2015 by Best Schools for Nursing. Most notable, however, are AACN’s national awards, one of which includes the 2015 Teaching Excellence and Innovation Award, which was won by Associate Professor and NP Program Director Christine Colella, DNP, RN, CS, CNP. The university’s School of Nursing also won a 2015 Professional Nursing Education Innovation Award for its iPad program, which aims to “change the way nursing education is delivered.”

The University of Nevada, Las Vegas School of Nursing ranks No. 28 on our list of the 30 Best Nursing Programs. The UNLV School of Nursing, established in the fall of 1965 in response to a statewide nursing shortage that began the previous year, currently has a 97% first-time NCLEX exam pass rate (based on a four-year rolling average), conducive to admission into our Second highest passing rating in the top 30. Additionally, College Atlas recently included the school on its list of top 10 nursing schools.

Brigham Young University School of Nursing, founded in 1952, ranks No. 27. The School, led by Dean Patricia K. Ravert, PhD, RN, CNE, ANEF, FAAN, since 2012 has achieved a four-year rolling average pass rate of 97% for the School of Nursing’s first-time NCLEX test scores at our Tied for second among schools on the list. In keeping with this impressive achievement, College Atlas also recently named the program one of the top ten nursing schools in the nation, one of only four schools on our list to receive this recognition.

The University of Colorado Denver School of Nursing ranks No. 26 on our list of the 30 Best Nursing Programs. One of the earliest nursing programs west of the Mississippi River, the college was founded in 1898 but did not offer a bachelor’s degree program until 1920. The UC Denver School of Nursing is one of the top NIH-funded schools in the country, receiving more than $205 million in 2016 and is named to the Center for Nursing Schools’ Top 25 Cutting-Edge Nursing Schools list. The school was also recently named one of the 25 Best Nursing Schools in 2015 by U.S. News & World Report.

Officially created in 2002, Drexel University’s School of Nursing and Health Professions quickly became one of the best programs and ranks No. 25 on our list. In addition to being named to Best Nursing College’s list of the top 25 nursing schools, the program is also on College Factual’s list of the top 25 schools for earning a nursing degree. The School of Nursing and Health Professions also boasts a four-year rolling average pass rate of 97% on the first-time NCLEX test, ranking it second on our list.

The UAB School of Nursing, ranked No. 24 on our list, was established in 1950 when the state Legislature authorized and funded a baccalaureate-level nursing school at the University of Alabama. In fiscal year 2016, the National Institutes of Health (NIH) ranked the University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Nursing as one of the 25 most funded programs in the United States. Additionally, the school ranked among the 25 best nursing programs in the 2016 edition of U.S. News & World Report. Last but not least, AACN named Deborah Kirk Walker, DNP, FNP-BC, AOCN, the 2015 recipient of the Excellence and Innovation in Teaching Award.

Anderson, who has served in various capacities at Oregon State University over the years, is the recipient of the AACN’s 2012 Sister Bernadette Armig Award, which is given only to those who have “remarkable Individuals who advance nursing education and practice.” The School of Nursing was also named to the Top 25 Best Nursing Programs in the 2016 edition of U.S. News & World Report and was named a Top 25 Top Nursing School by the Center for Schools of Nursing.

The UVA School of Nursing, founded in 1901 and home to a 577-bed hospital, is the 22nd school of nursing on the 2015 Center for Schools of Nursing’s list of the Top 25 Nursing Schools. Additionally, U.S. News & World Report has ranked the school among the top 25 nursing programs in the nation each of the past two years, ranking the school No. 18 in 2015 and No. 16 in 2016.

The University of Illinois at Chicago School of Nursing admitted its first class of students in September 1954, ranking No. 21. Like many other schools on our list, the UIC School of Nursing was ranked in the top 25 of the 25 Best Nursing Schools in 2015 and 2016 by U.S. News & World Report, ranking 13th and 17th respectively. The program has also been named one of the top 25 nursing schools by the Center for Schools of Nursing.
