Accredited Master Degree – On May 1, 2015, EKU’s athletic training program began the process of transitioning from a BS in AT to an MS in AT degree by requesting a radical change in degree from the Commission on Athletic Training Education (CAATE). On August 17, 2016, the process ended with the simple words of the CAATE President… “The Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education voted to accept the request for a degree change for the Athletic Training program at Eastern Kentucky. University.”
Never have such simple words been met with such joy. For the past year and a quarter we have been in a “lend and wait” situation. We created and waited, reviewed and waited, and submitted the completed application and constantly communicated with the review team. In the middle of this process, we enrolled our first group of students in the AT program at MS. We evaluate, plan, re-evaluate, and implement; All this in mind. And wait… until now.

Accelerated Online Master’s In Nursing Program (competency Based)
GREENEVILLE – The value of a Tusculum University education gained further recognition as another academic program received industry-specific accreditation and the College of Business received positive reviews for its continued growth. Tusculum recently received accreditation from the Accrediting Council for Business Schools and the Master of Arts in Organizational Training and Performance Management program. This graduate degree is part of the College of Education. “We have an excellent program that produces graduates who are prepared to start their careers and succeed in their professional lives,” said Dr. Jeff Burleson, assistant professor of education and MAOT program coordinator. “As a college of business, we focus on quality and are pleased that ACBSP has recognized the merits of our program for this prestigious accreditation.” The College of Business received accreditation for all of its programs from ACBSP in 2018, and the accrediting body added the Masters in Organizational Training and Performance Management to that list. In the two-year post-accreditation review of the College of Business, ACBSP found no concerns for the university. This is the latest achievement for the College of Business, which has achieved excellent rankings on national websites for the past two years. In addition to ACBSP accreditation for MAOT and the College of Business, these and all other Tusculum academic programs are accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges. Many university programs are also accredited by other institutions. Dr. Burleson credits Dr. Jacob Feit, Dean of the College of Business, with leading the MAOT accreditation process to its successful conclusion. Dr. Fitt said the idea originated with Dr. Burleson and directed the two men to document all elements of the MAOT program and how they meet accreditation standards. Dr. Burleson said the MAOT program fits well with the College of Business. MAOT combines business-related content such as leadership, strategic planning and group facilitation with academic subjects such as adult learning, curriculum development and instructional design for face-to-face and online courses. He said that MAOT graduates have found excellent jobs in various institutions, such as education, banking, manufacturing, entertainment and the military. Like those from the College of Business, MAOT graduates will be able to add the endorsement to their resume when listing their degree. This will give employers more confidence in the power of these programs. The addition of the MAOT accreditation comes at the same time that ACBSP completes its annual review of the status of the College of Business. The result of the review was that the College of Business sought. “This is a tribute to the extraordinary commitment of our faculty and administration in the College of Business to provide programs that support our students and meet the needs of the workforce,” said Dr. Fitt. “We continue to stay at the cutting edge of business education to ensure our students are career-ready professionals.” Dr. Fitt said the College of Business has a five-year strategic plan, which is updated annually to take into account input from faculty, students and advisory board members. He said this process allows the College of Business to make appropriate adjustments to ensure it meets the necessary goals. This aligns with ACBSP’s desire for accredited schools to seek continuous improvement. “Our accreditation is a great recruiting tool,” said Dr. Fitt. “Employers understand that our programs meet the rigorous standards of this accredited institution. We want to make sure that the employees are comfortable and know that the human resources are brought to the organization well and well prepared.
